A push notification lands on the shopper's lock screen, which makes it one of the most direct ways a store can talk to its customers. That is also why it needs care: too many messages, or the wrong ones, and shoppers turn notifications off for good.
The safest place to start is automations: messages triggered by what a shopper does, sent once, at the right moment.
1. Welcome
Sent shortly after someone installs your app and allows notifications. Use it to thank them and give one clear reason to come back: a new collection, a first-order offer, or what makes your store different.
- Keep it short: one sentence of title, one of body.
- Link it to a real screen, such as your new arrivals.
2. Abandoned cart
Sent when a shopper adds something to their bag and leaves without checking out. This is usually the most valuable automation, because the shopper has already shown intent.
- Remind them what's waiting rather than pushing a discount straight away.
- Open the bag directly when they tap.
3. Back in stock
Sent when a product a shopper wanted comes back. It is useful rather than promotional, so it is rarely unwelcome.
4. Win-back
Sent to shoppers who haven't opened the app in a while. Give them something new to look at instead of a generic "we miss you".
Writing messages people keep
- Lead with the benefit, not your brand name: the shopper already sees your app icon.
- One idea per message.
- Always deep-link to the exact product or screen you mention.
- Respect the hour. A message at 3 a.m. is a fast way to lose permission.
In AppFromShop, each automation is a single switch, with a live preview of how the notification will look before you turn it on.
